Avery Directs, Lighting designs, and stars in ‘Macbeth the Match’ at the Tank theatre NYC

This summer Avery was involved in a devised Shakespeare production that blended stage acting and professional wrestling.

RIFT at The Tank Theater in NYC

In February of 2022 Avery Directed the world Premier of the original play “RIFT”. RIFT is an Absurdist piece that follows two women after they find one another in their mirror.

First feature film “Cupid For Christmas” on HULU!

“Cupid for Christmas” features Richard Kind (Inside Out), Ryan Carnes (Letters from Iwo Jima), and Melanie Stone. Avery plays Raif, one of professor Conrads students. You can find a highlight reel of Avery’s work from the film under the Media tab in Videos.

Avery moves to New York City

In January of 2021 amidst the global pandemic Avery and his three roommates from college took the leap of faith and moved to New York city to begin pursuing a career in acting.

“Cupid for Christmas” feature film with Richard Kind.

In August 2020 Avery filmed “Cupid for Christmas” featuring Richard Kind (Inside Out), Ryan Carnes (Letters from Iwo Jima), and Melanie Stone. Avery plays Raif, one of professor Conrads students. The film is set to be released Christmas 2021.

“Midsummer” Filmed Zoom production

Avery recently was cast to play Lysander in a filmed Zoom production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with the Poor Yorick’s Players based out of Pittsburgh PA.

A Quarantine Collaboration with Daniel Talbott (Writer for “The Conner’s”)

This Spring, Avery had the opportunity to be a part of the “Playwright Actor Project” where he was paired with professional writer, Daniel Talbott. After meeting virtually, Daniel wrote an original piece for Avery titled “Raccoons” and Avery performed it live on the project’s Facebook page. “Raccoons” is being turned into an original short film later this summer; see the link below for a segment of the monologue.

Class of 2020 Graduation - Shenandoah University

This May, Avery graduated Magna Cum Laude from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Acting. He would like to thank his classmates and teachers for a wonderful four years. Next stop: New York City!

“True West” Zoom Reading

In an attempt to continue working on their craft during quarantine, Avery and his peer, Richard Colley, spent the first two weeks of May, working on a reading of “True West” by Sam Shepard where Avery Played Shepard’s famous cowboy drifter Lee.

THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE OF NEW JERSEY -

2020 ACTING APPRENTICESHIP

Avery was recently accepted into the ten-week Acting Apprenticeship Program at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey! The rigorous program would have included hands-on-training, masterclasses with industry professionals, and the opportunity to understudy in the theatre’s productions. Unfortunately, this was cancelled due to Covid-19.

A LOSS FOR WORDS - NYC FILM SHOWING

This past semester, Avery booked his first film lead in “A Loss for Words.” He portrayed a young radio host (Trevor) who speaks his mind on air and is given an ultimatum by the executives of his radio station: publicly apologize or lose his job. The film will be played on New Year’s Eve at the New York Movie Awards in New York City.

ROMEO AND JULIET - SHUTUP IT’S SHAKESPEARE!

This Spring, Avery co-directed a re-imagined version of Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET with SUIS at Shenandoah University. The production was set to take place outdoors but due to COVID-19 the production took place virtually over the video conferencing app “Zoom”. The re-imagined production featured a predominantly female cast.

MACBETH AT SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY

Avery recently had the honor of playing the titular role in MACBETH at Shenandoah University. The show ran from November 14th - November 17th in the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre!

A WEEK WITH STEPHEN MCKINLEY HENDERSON

In April, Avery and his classmates had the incredible opportunity to collaborate on stage and screen with legend Stephen McKinley Henderson during his week long residency at Shenandoah University!

This summer, Avery will be working as the directing intern for Jeremy Scott Blaustein in Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre's production of RAGTIME.

FAST, UGLY, AND FUCKED UP - NY WINTER FESTIVAL FINALIST

In Fall of 2017, Avery directed an original play written by fellow classmate Daniel Bush. The show was titled "FAST, UGLY, AND FUCKED UP” and in December of 2019, the piece was chosen to be remounted for the New York Theatre Winter Festival. While at Winter Fest, the play was honored as a top three finalist out of the 116 pieces picked.

SHAKESPEARE STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM 2018

Over the summer, Avery participated in an International Study Abroad Shakespeare Program in the United Kingdom. The program was a three and-a-half week training program with professionals from Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Birthplace trust, and The Globe in London, England. The classes culminated in a Shakespearean showcase on the Globe stage where Avery performed an excerpt from HAMLET.
